Lumen is the international unit of luminous flux, which is defined in terms of the candela spherical angle (cd times sr). A point light source with a luminous intensity of 1 candela (cd), the luminous flux emitted within a unit solid angle (1 steradian) is "1 lumen", the English abbreviation (lm).
The difference between lumens and lux units is considering the area of the light flux lux diffusion or not. If the luminous flux of 1000 lumens is concentrated in an area of 1 square meter, the square meter will be illuminated with 1000 lux illuminance. The same 1000 lumens, distributed on an area of ten square meters, only produces 100 lux dimming. Their relationship is, 1 lx = 1 lm / m2.
When you know the luminous efficacy of led lights and total wattages it needed, you can calculate the total lumens of the whole sports field. For example, the luminous efficacy of the led lights is 155LM/W, so the total lumen of 1300W will be 1300W x 155LM/W=201,500 lumens.
In addition, there is another way to calculate lumens. You need to know the illuminance you need and the size of the venue to be illuminated. From this, we know how many lumens the entire venue needs. For example, the area of a tennis court is 100 square meters, and the required illuminance is 300lux, so the total lumens required is 30,000 lumen.
The beam ΦV in lumens (lm) is equal to the illuminance Ev in lux (lx) multiplied by the surface area A in square meters (m2):
ΦV(lm)=Ev(lx) x A(m2)
The luminous flux ΦV in lumens (lm) is equal to the illuminance Ev in lux (lx) multiplied by 4 πtimes the radius r of the square sphere in meters (m):
ΦV(lm)=Ev(lx) x (4⋅π⋅r2(m2))
The luminous flux ΦV in lumens (lm) is equal to 0.09290304 times the illuminance Ev in lux (lx) multiplied by the surface area A (ft2) in square feet:
ΦV (lm) = 0.09290304 x Ev (lx) x A (ft2)
The luminous flux ΦV in lumens (lm) is equal to 0.09290304 of the illuminance Ev in lux (lx) multiplied by 4π times the square sphere radius r in feet (ft):
ΦV(lm)= 0.09290304 × Ev(lx)x(4⋅π⋅r(ft)2)
In addition to the lumens, wattage also need to pay attention. The wattage is very important and related directly to the electricity bill you paid. The higher the wattage, the higher the electricity bill you have to pay. When you know the lumens, how can you know how many wattage will you need to take?
Before converting, you need to know the luminous efficacy of the led lights. Because lumens are calculated from luminous efficacy and wattage. In other words, the luminous flux ΦV in lumens (lm) is equal to the power P in watts (W) multiplied by the luminous efficiency η in lumens per watt (lm/W): ΦV(lm) = P(W) xη(lm/W).
Therefore, the calculation formula from lumen to wattage is : watts = lumens / (lumens per watt) or W=LW / (LM/W)
For example, What is the power consumption of a lamp with a luminous flux of 51,200 lumens and a luminous efficiency of 160 lumens/watt (lm/W)?
P=51200 / 160 =320W
